Natural Deodorant Recipe That Actually Works

Handmade deodorant made with ingredients you can trust.

Tired of store-bought deodorants filled with chemicals, aluminum, and synthetic fragrances? Making your own natural deodorant is easier than you think—and it actually works! With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a safe, effective, and customizable deodorant that keeps you fresh all day.

Why Switch to Natural Deodorant?

Many commercial deodorants contain aluminum, parabens, and artificial fragrances, which can be harsh on the skin and potentially harmful. A DIY deodorant is free of toxins, allows your skin to breathe, and is made with ingredients you can trust.

Simple DIY Natural Deodorant Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil (moisturizing & antibacterial)

  • 1/4 cup baking soda (neutralizes odor)

  • 1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch (absorbs moisture)

  • 5–10 drops essential oil (tea tree, lavender, or lemon for freshness)

  • 1 tbsp shea butter (optional for extra creaminess)

Directions:
  1. Melt the coconut oil and shea butter (if using) in a double boiler over low heat.

  2. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and arrowroot powder until smooth.

  3. Add essential oils and mix well.

  4. Pour into a clean jar or an empty deodorant stick mold.

  5. Let it cool and solidify before use.

Baking Soda-Free DIY Deodorant Recipe

For those with sensitive skin, this baking soda-free version is just as effective without the irritation.

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil

  • 1/4 cup arrowroot powder

  • 1/4 cup kaolin clay (absorbs moisture and detoxifies)

  • 1 tbsp shea butter

  • 5–10 drops essential oil (tea tree, lavender, or rose for a light scent)

Directions:
  1. Melt the coconut oil and shea butter in a double boiler over low heat.

  2. Remove from heat and stir in arrowroot powder and kaolin clay until well combined.

  3. Add essential oils and mix thoroughly.

  4. Pour into a jar or deodorant stick mold and let it cool.

How to Use

Apply a small amount to clean, dry underarms using your fingers or a spatula. If using a deodorant stick mold, apply as you would a regular deodorant.

Tips for Success

  • Sensitive Skin? Reduce the amount of baking soda or replace it with kaolin clay.

  • Too Soft? Add more arrowroot powder or store in the fridge during warmer months.

  • Too Hard? Increase the amount of coconut oil.

  • Sweating More Initially? Your body may need time to adjust as it detoxes from commercial deodorants.

Final Thoughts

Switching to a natural deodorant is a simple yet effective way to eliminate toxins from your daily routine. Plus, it’s budget-friendly, customizable, and eco-friendly! Give it a try and see how your skin—and nose—thank you.
